Critical Analysis of Drama
Theme : Teenagers’ finding self identity
Characters : John Polk Richards (17) is narrated as a teenager who does not know what he wants in life in the beginning of plot, he confuses about what he is doing, he is suspicious, has no brave for being himself, lives his life always on the track and polite enough to other people.
Ashbe Williams (16) is narrated as a brave teen, she do what she wants and what she think is right to be done, she is mature enough and knows a lot about adults’ stuff, friendly, she talks turkey about anything including about herself, creative, bit awkward with the spell, innocent and seems to take all easy.
Plot : the setting takes place from bar to Ashbe’s apartment in one night. The two contrary characters meet in a bar. John Polk and Ashbe start the conversation from a bar, at first John Polk seems not interested to talk with anyone but Ashbe keep asking him anything till they out from the bar. He thinks that Ashbe is only an infant. They talk about his fraternity and from that conversation Ashbe find that John Polk has no reason in joining the S.A.E.. After that Ashbe ask John to come to her apartment to get some drink. In Ashbe’s apartment they talk a lot especially about their self, what they are doing, what they want in their life until they come to dance topic. They agree that they don’t like dance and party. The climax is when John Polk start saying Ashbe mean because her Voodoo and Ashbe start saying that John Polk is a normal sheep. He is angry, but he is angry because it all is true. Then he starts to change his point and view of life. Finally he knows exactly what he is going to do and finds his brave. While Ashbe thinks that she is in the wrong world just because she thinks she is not normal because John Polk does not want make sex with her. In the end, they both find their way in being teenagers.
Issue : in my opinion, the issue is in what way teenagers’ transfer from children to adults. How they face the problem being in between child and adult life. They are in intersection life so complex that they feel they are in the wrong world.
